Kitegen Stem – High Altitute Wind Energy
The Kitegen Stem is an italian developed power plant that is rated at 3MW. A 27MW kitegen Windpark (9 stem units) is under construction since Dez 09.
1MW installed will be about 4 times cheaper than conventional windturbines with a capacity factor from 50-85% depending on location an operating high (800-10.000m).
The Stem could be operated offshore or on a ship.

Notable is that this cost less than $100 in materials so far and that the largest part of this turbine is recycled materials (the PVC drums previously held Balsamic Vinegar from Italy).

In December of this year world leaders will meet in Copenhagen to determine our future.
Addressing the most pressing issue of our time, the meeting will negotiate the cuts to carbon emissions which countries must commit to in order to combat climate change.
The scientific consensus is that carbon emissions need to peak and decline by 2020 to prevent global temperatures increasing by 2 degrees Celsius or more, a rise which would precipitate the worst consequences of climate change. Achieving this, however, will require significant reductions in CO2 emissions.
The situation is very urgent but there is no guarantee that leaders will commit to the deep cuts required.
The technology for making this happen exists, and we need to make sure world leaders know the facts. We can make the cuts needed and still power the world.

With onboard Wi-Fi/WiMAX the Jellyfish is also smart-grid enabled. Today, wind and solar-powered homes are operated as autonomous points within the local electrical grid. However, they are an overlooked, yet important electrical power resource. If instead, each were harnessed collectively and tied interactively with the local utility grid as a Point-to-Grid (P2G) power generator, or even regulator, considerable economic, environmental and system reliability benefits are possible. By itself, each of these power sources is indeed small in its impact on the power system. In the aggregate, however, the economic value of P2G power is significant, more than enough to offset the initial cost of installing the required control hardware and integrating these systems with the local utility grid. Equally important, the necessary regulatory and energy distribution infrastructure, and hardware components to enable a number of different types of P2G-based systems are already in place today. The convergence of existing distributed electric power and Wi-Fi/WiMAX technologies creates an emerging market opportunity for technology and service providers to enable and accelerate the introduction of various types of P2G-enabled power generation.
